軟體開發以人為核心，是高度勞力密集的產業活動之一，但又不同於一般製造業，可視為社會系統的縮影。軟體開發活動包括基本的需求分析、系統分析、系統設計、程式開發、測試、交付等階段，交織以品質保證活動，過程中無不需要面對人力、工時、費用、進度、客戶關係、長官支持、局勢變化等議題。軟體開發專案的每個環節，常具有動態複雜性、時間滯延性、不確定性、非線性等特性，應用系統動態學對軟體開發專案建立模型，可模擬軟體開發活動，如實地反映現實。如此，專案細節將昭然若揭，有助於我們具備系統思考能力，疏理開發流程，以整體眼光瞭解專案全局，洞察上述各因素之間的關係，推演未來，為睿智決策提供參考。本研究應用系統動態學，以因
